» News: Scientology Front Group in U.S. Public Schools

A developing news story involves Applied Scholastics, a Scientology related organization (with separate corporate structure) that is apparently making inroads into public schools by providing "study skills" classes. Readers with children in public schools are advised to research whether their local school district contracts for services from Applied Scholastics. Applied Scholastics is a kind of secularized version of Scientology's "technology" and has not only been recently discovered in Baton Rouge, LA public schools but also in teacher training workshops (paid for by taxpayers) all across the country. Yes, this is a truly evil thing. When I was an administrator with the Los Angeles Unified School District around 2000, Scientologists were showing up at our community roundtables under the guise of a community-based organization (CBO). They were offering "tutoring" but no one seemed to notice that it was really Dianetics in disguise. I'm sure they are far more entrenched now.
